McPhee completed the electrical work affiliated with this exciting renewable energy project, the first of its kind in Connecticut.
Two General Electric wind turbines sit at the 80 acre site in northwestern Connecticut. Each tower is 492 feet tall to the highest blade and can generate 2.5 megawatts at peak output. BNE Energy has an agreement to sell 5 megawatts of energy to Eversource, a New England utility company.
It was the responsibility of the McPhee Team to install all the underground conduit, medium voltage cabling, grounding wire, fiber optic cable and switching / metering cabinets needed to link these two (2) turbines together and interconnect into the Eversource grid. This would include 1.25 miles of medium voltage cable, approximately 5000’ of grounding cable and 3,000 feet of fiber optic communications cable. From the time we started on the project, until the startup / commissioning, we had to work very closely with the Design Engineering firm to overcome some hurdles on this ever changing design. In the end, we surpassed the customers’ needs and provided them with an on time, quality project.
